Miniature Halloween Decor Ideas Under $20

Halloween miniatures do not have to be a big spend. Most of the pieces I reach for when I want a cozy, slightly spooky dollhouse scene cost less than $20, and many of them are $10 or less. All of them are 1/12 scale, the most common size for dollhouses and room boxes.

Below are my favorite Halloween miniature decor ideas under $20, a few easy ways to combine them, and some simple ideas for turning the same pieces into a Christmas scene once Halloween is over.

7 Halloween miniature decor ideas under $20

1. A Halloween wreath for the front door: $9.99

A wreath is the quickest way to make a dollhouse look ready for the season. The Halloween Dollhouse Miniature Wreath hangs on a door, a wall or a room box window, and it gives the whole scene a festive first impression.

2. A trick or treat bag: $2.49

The Dollhouse Miniature Trick or Treat Bag is one of the most affordable pieces on this list. Set it by the front door, on a porch step or next to a little costume, and it tells a story on its own.

3. Halloween cookies on a plate: $4.99

Six tiny cookies on one plate. The Halloween Cookies on a Plate set fits on a kitchen counter, a dining table or a shelf, and it is a sweet detail that makes a scene feel lived in.

4. A black cat: $9.99

Every cozy Halloween room is better with a cat. The Dollhouse Miniature Halloween Cat looks great on a windowsill, a mantel or beside a pumpkin.

5. A carved pumpkin or jack-o'-lantern: $4.99 to $10.99

I like a pumpkin in almost every Halloween scene. The Dollhouse Miniature Jack O Lantern is $4.99, and the Dollhouse Miniature Halloween Pumpkin is a mini carved pumpkin at $10.99. Both are easy to place on a porch, a table or a staircase.

6. A witch costume prop box: $1.99

At under $2, the Dollhouse Miniature Witch Halloween Costume is a fun little prop for a bedroom, a closet or a dress-up corner. It is a small piece that adds a lot of character.

7. Halloween cupcakes on a plate: $12.99

If you want a treat table, the Dollhouse Miniature 7 Cupcakes, Plate, Halloween set gives you seven cupcakes on one plate, which fills a table nicely with just one piece.

3 easy Halloween scenes, each under $20

You do not need a lot of pieces to style a scene. Here are three small sets that each come in under $20, based on the prices above.

A few styling tips

•      Start with one focal piece. A pumpkin or a cat in the center gives your eye a place to land.

•      Group in threes. Three small pieces together, like a pumpkin, a bag and a plate of cookies, look more styled than one piece on its own.

•      Add height. Set one piece on a small stand or a book so the scene is not all on one level.

•      Keep the colors warm. Orange, black and cream feel cozy and festive, and they photograph well.

From Halloween to Christmas: an easy swap

Once Halloween is over, the same scene can turn into a Christmas display without starting from scratch. The furniture, the shelves and the layout all stay the same. You only change the small decor, and most of the Christmas pieces cost even less than the Halloween ones.

If you want to plan ahead, you can keep your Halloween pieces in a small box and bring them out again next October.

Start small and add as you go

A few small pieces are enough to change the mood of a whole dollhouse. If you would like a ready-made set, my Halloween Starter Bundle has six Halloween pieces for $24.99. If you would rather pick your own, you can browse all the Seasonal & Holiday miniatures in the shop.

I would love to see how you style yours. Which piece would you add to your dollhouse first?
